RSR Engleman mirrors?
 

I have a pair of Engleman mirrors I recently purchased from a member who sells here on Pelican.

This is the same mirror mounted.

Commonly seen on the 73/74 RS and RSR factory cars.

Problem I was unware of and not disclosed by the seller is one mirror was broken and unusable. It has an obviously long ago broken base. Fragile design and I suspect why the factory stopped using them. Any one know where I might find spare parts for these as they are useless as is because they can't be mounted or adjusted. Says pat. pending on the frame and no listings on a Google search.

epoxy?

Base material is Delrin...epoxy isn't the best thing for this stuff. Delrin also becomes brittle over time. These are 30 years old I bet and even the good one is nonfunctional as is.

Delrin was great stuff when it first came out in the early '70s. Easy to mold, self lubricating, impact resistant and tough. They used Delrin in ski bindings to replace steel parts among other things. Once it is cracked or broken you are pretty much screwed.

Copies of these in glass or carbon fiber might be cool.

RSR where did you hear that ? These were used a lot in Europe in the 80s as a cheap replacement. They were crap back then so i dont think they will be better 20 years old. You can buy them all metal aswell look voor Opel Ascona or Manta they had them on their SR models.

I have seen these mounted on factory RSRs myself.
Funny part is that the mirror housing without the foot was glued to the quarter window to create the "935" mirror used among others on Yellowbird.

Here on a genuine RSR with less than 10K miles since new.

Good to see the pics. I was going to ask to see them - but the other thread got U G L Y and shut down.

Those mirrors are obviously JUNK.

I'd be pissed if I opened my box and saw the above - then I'd call the guy and have a chat.

I had one, the base also broke. So I threaded the 2 posts in upper housing and put studs in it. The hard part is you have to install from inside the door. The mirror is not very rigid new .The real problem with yours is the top ball sacket that holds the mirror steady is cracked ..The one I fixed you can see at Goodman Racing BFG Corvette.If you really wanted that Mirrior a new base could be machined from Delrin stock.
Or send em back to the seller.

I fixed one of these mirrors before also. I have a a small lathe and machined a new one. For the crack you could try some thick super glue but use the glue primer first. I use to build alot of 1/10 race stuff and there were many different types of plastics that were used and the thick glue worked well on many of the parts. You may need to file or dremel level. I do like those mirrors on the 74 Carrera.

I know Performance Products carries these (they're pictured in the latest catalog), so therefore Pelican must be able to get them for you.

I have seen more pictures of these mirrors on the original rsr cars that any other. "excellence was expected" has a bunch of them.

You could probably get replacement parts milled from AL by a good machine shop pretty cheap.

I agree...it looks pretty easy, and is something even I could do, if I had a mill.
