another how much would you pay? thread.
So I had to go by the dmv and replace my lost license and on the way home stopped off at a friends shop. I need a job over break so we talked about it and I will be busy putting some of his 911's back together, very stoked.
Then he showed me a car he just got, 72 911T, non sunroof coupe, original everything, whats left of the paint is still there. Only the right rear fender was beat up and repaired. We didnt have time today to give the engine a once over and try to fire it up but hopefully it does. It has been sitting in a garage since 1980. I would post some pics but I had to wrap the digital camera back up for xmas. Picked up the carpets, a sprinkling of rust, not bad really, mechanically sound car, just needs some paint and engine work. How much would you pay for it?

Since 1980 ? It will likely have many unpleasent suprizes . If its straight and solid I would figure $3500.00 but if your bank account is weak you should walk away . Figure to spend another $5-10k making it right . If the mileage is low (only used 8 years right) when you are finished it should be worth in the high teens in todays market . 5 years from now ? Maybe low 20`s . These cars 69-73 are going up in value about $1k a year .

The car is very straight and clean all over, minimal to no rust, none of it structural. We are going to go over the mfi tomorrow, change all the fluids, get some compression in it then try to crank it over. New battery as well, so hopefully that will go well. If I buy it im going to strip it down and setup a booth in my garage and shoot it.
So fingers crossed. I didnt figure 4500 though because the paint needs to be redone, no simple buff there. Ill try and borrow a buddies cam and get some pics up soon.

Yes you better drain/flush the tank and flush the lines first . If your lucky the pump will fire up . If not try tapping it with a small hammer . With fresh fuel you should pull the feed hose off of the $75.00 engine room fuel filter and let it run a few gallons out . You want to avoid violating that MFI system at all costs . Also note that the tank has its own little brass filter on the outlet . Rust will easily clog it . The fuel system , brakes , and oil leaks will be the trouble areas on a car that was sitting 25 years . Be sure to soak the cylinders with light oil and turn the engine by hand first . Even with bad paint an original complete solid 1972 coupe is worth well over $3k any day . Dont be suprized if the sellers tells you $5k or more .

Thanks Kurt very good to have a checklist to make sure I dont miss something. The guy selling it is our old mechanic/friend and my new boss. My dad bought his porsche from him a little over a year ago. I dont expect him to give me a break but I wont pass it up.

Didnt have time to get the car ready to try and crank it over but I gave it a thorough once over on the body. I have not found ANY structural rust. All the rust that is there is minimal surface rust. Rockers, shock mounts, battery boxes, all around the windshield, hood parting lines, floorboards, rearseats, its all rust free!!! Bad news is that the TB's are frozen, he also mentioned the engine should be refreshed. It has not run since 85 and he suggested piston rings, valve adjustment, main bearings, rod bolts and little odds and ends like sparkplugs, new fuel filter etc. He offered the car to me for 2500. I also found out that the car had been repainted but we did some digging and found the original color was silver/aluminum but it was resprayed a metallic grey which is now very matte and used. So with the prospect of an engine build and needing new paint and some other TLC for 2500 it seems like a good buy for a rust free 72T or does it? Thoughts please especially on what to do about the engine to get it up and running.

Plans for the car are dependant on funds but my friend selling me the car has a low mileage 993 engine and 6spd trans hiding in his shop for me. I wont be paying for labor because we will be building it together. RSR flares, 935 susp, stripped out interior wont cost much at all haha. We laid out a rotisserie today and will weld it up next week and begin stripping it down before I even buy it! Yes this guy is that cool! So now I really cant complain about the price.

Maybe think about buying it before it goes on the rotisserie and he changes his mind?

That sounds like a good price. I would try to buy it asap if I were you. Sometimes word gets around on a good deal and somebody else may offer more money then he may change his mind. From what you describe sounds good. Goodluck.

Clock says 71,600 miles. The sender is still hooked up and there was a nice pile of gas reciepts and a mileage log, last entry was 71,250. So I would like to think that the mileage on the clock is accurate.
