Lots of gift certificates...what tools to buy??
Merry Christmas everyone...
Need some advice on tools to have in my new workshop. I know this is an open ended question but any advice will help in my selection. I have the basics..like metric and sae wrench and sockets sets, hammers, toolchest, etc...I know there are various calibration tools that would be helpful that I will probably need. Basically have $300 to spend (initially) on boxing day sales!! Looking for some suggestions before I begin doing some DIY engine work. Thanks in advance Andy 70 911T 81 911SC |

3/8" (to 75 ft-lb) and 1/2" (to 150 ft-lb) drive torque wrenches, non-marring 19mm wheel lug nut socket, soft face hammer, floor jack, four jack stands, wheel chocks, metric flare nut wrenches, set of 3/8" drive metric hex bit sockets, set of small metric combination ignition wrenches, set of 1/4"drive metric flex sockets, small voltage ohm meter (VOM) with audible continuity buzzer, timing light; if the 70T still has points a dwell meter and set of metric feeler guages, a reasonable quality caliper is a good start for measuring tools, and finally a Motive pressure bleeder. Hard to know w/o know ing how deep the engine DIYing is going to go or what you have now.
If you know certain tasks are going to be done, you might search on the task name/key words and make notes of what others used - or wished they had. I'll bet Wayne has a list of tools in his engine book; there is one in BA's hotrodding your 911 book for the engine work. I would NOT blow all $$ on one power item unless I had a large hand tool collection already.

What the he!! is Boxing Day?
Just kidding, I grew up on the US/Canada border. I am used to your holidays that were just a little different than ours. As far as tools, I would get ones that you may need to use for Porsche fixes. Right height wrench, mixture adjustment wrench, etc. See ya Wayne
