Tony, amazing job. That looks super clean. I noticed you took out the stock SC center console area. I imagine there would be shifting problems if you were to add the taller 993-style center-console. Regardless, it looks great, and best of all, very original.

Thanks for the compliment!

The 993 console is not taller. The center tunnel of a 993 is taller than that in the SC/Carrera cars... which makes the center console stand taller.

The problem is that the stock center console is too big to clear the 993 lower dash. It just won't fit (approximately 1" too tall).

I'm having a 993 center console fitted to the car as we speak (sort of...). I'm not fitting the entire center 993 center tunnel. Just the center console which has been shortened to fit my car, recovered in black carpet to match, etc... and has the center section where the switches are located, modified to accept my existing SC A/C fan and temp switches (nothing else).

The interior swap is stalled. It's 99.9% done, but it looks like I've changed my mind about the center conosole.

I purchased a 930 shifter/boot combo and have decided to not have a console at all. It looks real "clean" without the center console with the shifter/boot setup.

The only problem I'm having is what to do with the a/c controls (2).

I thought I'm remove the foglight and cig lighter and install them there, but they won't fit. Then I tried to mount them in the air bag cover (no air bag behind there) but the metal frame is too thick.... so I'm stuck on this one. I might have a small console made out of aluminum, and have it padded/covered in matching black materials....

Oh.. and I also purchased a factory Porsche 930 steering wheel (new) and have that installed as well. Looks good.

.... if I could only figure out what to do with the 2 a/c controls...

Any ideals? (anyone?)

That's the Escort X-50 Radar remote module.

It allows me to shut off the lights on the radar detector.

The remote has it's own lights and it's own silence button.

This was hardwired in when I did the new gauges and head liner (so the wiring is concealed).

Have you got a photo of the shift/boot solution? After seeing your interior & this thread, I got motivated....my 993 door panels just arrived and my boxster seats arrive monday (loved them when I had my boxster) I am looking forward to the update in my '84 Targa's interior.....

Thanks for all your info, nice work....

I realize I'm bringing this thread WAY back from the dead, but I'm hoping to get a bit of info from Tony on the 993 lower dash install.

All I really need to know is:

- Did you cut the original (SC) ash tray mounting plate off the dash?

- How'd you get the hood release knob off???

- Any other install problems you ran into?

- Damion
