Did I hose my throttle body?
I was working on my throttle body tonight; it had lots of oil in it and wanted to clean it out. Well long story short I bent the main rod that holds the butterfly valve. Am I hosed or can the rod be bent back to straight? The rod is out of the throttle body and is definately not straight
and it will not slide all the way through. Some nights I can just kick my self!!!

Well, if you can straighten it out without boogering it up I don't see why it can't be fixed.
How did you manage to bend it? |

Well I figure if it is not perfect it will cause excessive wear on the bearings and cause bigger problems down the road or make the throttle stick.
I was initally trying to pry the end with the linkage off. After bending the likage a little I saw the clip on the other side. D'oh! In trying to straighten out the linkage I was a little rough and bent the shaft (read with a hammer). I wonder if I can get an old throttle body cheap and just use the rod? I was not thinking properly when I tried to straighten out the linkage...

I cringe to read "linkage", "throttle body" and "hammer" in the same sentence.
Have you tried a call to our host? That part may be available. If not, I think you are correct to find a good, used throttle-body and swap whatever parts you need. Jerry M '78 SC |

I did too after I realized what I did. Very dumb moment... Another potentially costly story for the books.
