Should I powder coat Intake Valve covers?

I'm in the process of an engine detail and I'm considering powdercoating intake valve covers black.

Any photos around of this?

Any reason why/why not to do this?

Any heat concerns?

Thanks.

Ian

The only thing that would concern me is the baking process. The heat may warp the valve cover. The only way to avoid warpage would be to bolt the valve cover to a template during the curing process. I would paint the cover myself.

others have done it. the 400 degree baking won't hurt the valve covers

I powdercoated my intake valve covers and have not had any problems. The intakes covers are less critical than the exhaust valve covers. Get your powdercoater to take a ScotchBrite pad (on a drill) and clean of the powder on the "PORSCHE" script..you'll like the way it looks.

I had mine done black - just sand them flat if they do warp.

Ian, Powder Coat it and forget about it. A dark color will not show the porose nature of the covers. Lighter colors are great for really flat surfaces. Things to remember is that powder coating is like painting, only that the heat melts the powder till it flows then the cure time allows the chemical reaction to link up and become very durable. If the base metal has imperfections the PC will only be able to (fill in ) so much.
The beauty of PC is that once done, It's done. Check out Eastwoods for the different colors that you can use.
