Mid Ohio School

It looks like I'll be attending the Mid Ohio High Performance Driving School this Spring. It's a two day school involving clasroom, autocross, and full track sessions. I get an option to bring my car or use one of their Acura's. What should I do? My only track time is behind the wheel of my 911.

John

IMHO - use your car. They have a great program and you will learn alot but, if you choose to use thier cars the seat time and technique you will devleop will be with a front driver Acura RSX. Fun cars to be sure but, if you are going to the advaced school ( I think the 2 day still has the high perf and the 2nd day advanced high perf program) I'd want to get that track time and instruction in my own car. Just my $.02. But - it might mean a new set of tires after the event!!!

John, I looked into this school a few years ago but thought it was expensive for the track time given? Unforturnately, most schools are though. As far as using your car, I don't think that is as crucial. When I did the Barber school, I used their formula cars that were much more responsive then my 911. They demanded much more driver input to drive them quick, thereby increasing your skills immensly. The following spring when I drove my 911 at the tracks, my car felt like a station wagon in comparison. But I was way more quicker then ever before and it easily took seconds off my lap times. It was more important pushing yourself your beyond your boundaries then the actual vehicle you were driving. Doing DE's over and over can stagnant your development and possible reinforce area's that could be improved. Race or driver schools are a nice progression.
