There are two Porsche dealers in the Atlanta area. Call their service depts (get the # from the Porsche website) and ask if they have service records on the car.

There are all sorts of "people finders" on the internet that you can use.

Thanks for the tip & that's exactly what i am going to do and as far as the records go well i have all the service history dating back to the date of first sale but the history is of no help as the tele number has been changed since the last date of service i,e 3 years ago. However i just realized that the address might still be the same so i guess i can send him a note asking for his tele #,yee haw

The dealer i bought my car from told me that the car was like new and that it never had any paint work.Well ofcourse i had a PPI done by one of the Porsche dealerships in TN who along with few other things failed to comment on driver side quarter panel & the hood respray.
Any way my question to him would be,what exactly happened to the car and who did the paint work as it is so perfect that even 2 body shops missed it when i showed them the car. However PPI was a mess and 'coz of some technacalities i couldn't pursue them and since the PPI was done i ccouldn't even pursue the damn dealer whom i purchased the car to begin with.

I've traded several cars into dealerships. I don't know how receptive I would be to the idea of a current owner calling me with problems they were having with one of those cars. Especially since you have already tried and failed to 'pursue' the people you bought the car from.

Did you run a Carfax on the car?

So, if the repair is that good, what's the issue?

I agree with this completely. I doubt very seriously that the PO would give you his phone number. If you called him once, would you keep calling? He's done with the car. It's gone, and he doesn't want anything to do with it anymore. Let him get on with his life. If I were him, I wouldn't talk to you. I think it's rude for you to try.

I have my PO's address and phone number, and I would love to have a chat with him about the car, but there's no way I would attempt to contact him. It's just inappropriate.

Why would the dealer give you the PO's name and open themselves up to a law suit? Personally I would not mind answering a few questions but I can understand why others may not and may not what their name given out by any dealer.

Shuie,
I don't intend pursuing the PO as all i want to do is to talk to the PO to see what & how the damage happened ( if at all ) and who did the repairs/respray as thats the guy i would like to take all my cars to regardless of what state he's in ! From looking at the car from underneath there's no evidence of any repairs but still i would like to know what the mystery is behind this respray ?
O btw the car fax was fine and i also talked to the shop that maintained the car for all those years and even the shop owner couldn't recall if the owner ever had any accidents,so my question is why this respray then ? Could it be the first owner who had the car for about a 14 montths/5000 miles that had the respray done, may be,well i am on this mystery trail now and hopefullu will find out the truth shortly

I think this is the first time i have ever read a post where the buyer is advised to not to talk to the previous owner regarding the car he's buying.I think if i am not allowed to talk to the previous owner then there must be something fishy that the dealer is hiding and i would glady pass the car, trust me i will and i have I think the way to approach this issue would be to have dealer call the PO and get his approval to talk to the prospectus buyer and if the owner talks then fine other wise happy hunting.

The respray might have happened before the car was ever sold new. I'm not sure what the rule of thumb is for dealerships to follow as far as repainting damage to a new car but who's watching ?
A lot of stuff can happen to a car in transport and while on a dealers lot.

Be sure to start your letter with some compliments on well he took care fo the car. You will be delaing with a very very busy and rich individual who may not be interested in having you investigate a car he sold - but maybe he'd like to share reminiscences about it - you never know. Also, radiologists are reclusive and hermit-like. They don't see patients (except as images) - so from that standpoint they have less human contact than a surgeon.

I've gotten calls from people who bought things I once owned (planes, cars, etc), sometimes ten years removed. I go by the "the more you stir it, the more it stinks" rule.

I've always thought they were "looking for trouble" types, so I just politely tell them that "I don't know anything...it worked fine for me", wish them luck, and let it go at that.

Good luck
Dave
