Too big to fail

How much does a dash weigh?
Mine came out in pieces, thanks to being siliconed down... I also cut out one of the defroster vents, which turned out to be a PITA - would be easier with the windshield out, so I'll wait until then to do the other side.
I'm going to try the felt trick.

I would think that the dash would weigh close to nothing... a pound or two... why did you cut it out...?

I have an '86 dash in my garage. I'll weigh it for you later today.

The one out of my '76 without defroster vents weighed 5.5lbs on my freight scale.

Between 5 and 6 pounds seems about right.
Allen, the point of this project is to create the lightest track 911 I can, so 5lbs for almost free is significant. I estimate I'm back up to 2100 now that the cage is almost done.

Thom, I didn't weigh it, but the glass dash that Damon makes (Series900) is very light, can't be more than a pound or 2.
I went with this dash for 2 reasons: 1. I didn't like the sharp edge on the gauge cluster. I could see sheered off fingers in an accident. 2. Has the stock overhang for a little better shade from sun. It also looks good. The build: http://forums.pelicanparts.com/porsche-911-technical-forum/168286-installing-fiberglass-dash.html#post1509804
