Recommendation needed: test only smog check in SF
It's time to get the 930 smogged. The car is completely stock and passed it's test two years ago with flying colors. Would anyone out there have a recommendation for a Porsche knowledgable test-only station in San Francisco that will treat my Turbo well?
Thanks! -Juan |
I'd suggest calling around to some local wrenches to get a referral to the person they work with. I can definitely tell you, having just been through this in NYC (similar testing to CA) with my 951, that you want someone who knows the car and how to get it to pass. I took mine to a Firestone tire place instead of my wrench's guy because I needed to have the front wheels balanced as well, and it was a real hassle. I suspect that they had some flexibility in selecting gears to test it in at speed on the dyno, and that only by picking the right combination does it pass. Next time I'll just ditch it with my wrench and let him deal with it.

The two speeds they run the test at are 15 and 25 mph. The 930 is geared so tall that you may want to use first gear for both speeds. If your car lugs at 25 in second you may want to tell the guy to run the whole test in first.
