Electrical help needed please
I seem to have a short in my windshield wipers. I got caught in the rain over the weekend and I had no wipers.
I changed the fuse twice and it blew both times when turning them on. I finally wrapped some aluminum foil around the fuse just to see if the wipers would work. They ran very slowly and the fuse started to smoke. I only ran them for a few seconds. Before I go diving into the wiring etc. I was hoping someone out there might have had a similar problem and also solution. This is a new problem. It hasn't been but a couple of weeks since I turned them on ![]()

sounds like the wiper motor is seizing up. Remove it and have it checked on a bench. Doubtful it's the wiring, however I'd check it over after the tinfoil trick to see if it's burned through anywhere.

I would have to agree..sounds like either the motor is bad or the linkage is binding..and drawing too much current.

What they said, and put away the tinfoil. Bad idea, fuses are your friends. They are telling you there's a current problem, and the problem is NEVER the fuse.

One must stay analytical in fuse capacities:

Easiest way to test the wiring in this case is to disconnect the wiper motor wiring, replace the fuse and see if it still blows when you turn on the wiper switch. Hopefully the tin foil did not cause you to melt any wires.

Jerry: Did you figure out what was happening with your wipers? Mine started doing the same thing last night.
