I've thought of it as well. My plan was to buy a middle year car, one that is galvanized, backdate it and then move everything over. Hopefully it would have most the electronics and interior framework so the swap wouldn't be too difficult. My hesitance to sell and buy a new car is all the sweat equity I have in the one I own now. I know everything there is to know and have changed or upgraded everything conceivable.

Did you swap the seats in your project and if so did they bolt right up? I'm looking to put '88 carrera seats into my '82 SC. Do you think they will fit? Thanks Doug (sorry if this post is a repeat) |
You should not have a problem with that. I bought a set of seats from a 71 (low bacvk) and rails did NOT match my 86. I do believe there is an adapter available. Maybe some one can add to this. Good luck.

>A few years ago I sold the T and now miss the vintage feel that car had. I decided to change my 86 into a pre 73 model. I bought and re-chromed Moveable door window frames, vent quater panel windows. Had door handles rechromed, as well as all the trim. Long nose was obtained by trading one of the front fenders. Both front fenders obtained from local roller for 100U$D. Replaced rear engine cover for 50 U$D. The reason I did not just buy a pre 73 is the 86 has the rust protection that I did not want to loose, along with the 3.2 that was recently rebuilt
Excuse me for being thick, but you said you missed the "feel" of a 73 and you reproduced the "look" of one ;-) Doesn't the 86 - even retrofitted - feel heavier than the 73 ? Thgis is an honest question, not aflame, I admire the retrofit ventures actually. I just bought a real 73.5 myself and quite frankly it does not feel all that different from my 83 SC - from memory at least... LEss powerful but lighter, so it feels pretty close... |
Steve, is it that you don't like the look of your cab? Why not backdate the sheetmetal for the appearance? Unless of course you are saving weight. If it were mine, I would sell yours, buy a roller and put in a 3.6. That would be the ticket!
Also, did you paint your rims? David |
"and put in a 3.6. That would be the ticket!"
- Yes, lots of them! Maybe David is trying to "drum up business." [just a joke] |
