Pulling my 2.2, what should I replace?
Driving my 911 today, pushed the clutch pedal and something went "snap", the clutch pedal stayed on the floor. It wasn't the cable, it was the assembly that the cable hooks to in the clutch/trans housing that broke. My mechanic has to pull the engine to fix it. While the engine is out we were going to replace the flywheel seal and do a valve adjustment, should I check/replace anything else?

There are a couple of seals that are hard to get to on the top of the motor. You will see more when you get it out. Look at the idiot light oil pressure sender, the crankcase vent gasket and hose, the oil cooler seals and think about putting in a new clutch disc since you will have the flywheel off and can resurface it along with the PP. Or, get a new PP, which many will tell you is the better way to go.

If your clutch is stiff or chattering, replace it. It sounds like your pivot stud and if it broke, it is because the pp is worn out. New stuff is $$ but WOW, what a difference.

I just had my 70E's motor out, you should replace the seal around the gear that drives the MFI pump, and do the belt too, it's MUCH easier with the motor out. We also replaced a bunch of various hoses, did the oil return tubes, and installed the carrera tensioner upgrade.

What condition are your vacuum and fuel lines in?

my '70E used to break that darn pivot bolt all the time. I finally replaced it with a 915 and never looked back. But... I am beginning to think that the cause of the multiple failures might have been the fork that the pivot bolt goes through. Hypothetically, if there is wear in that socket then the bolt may bind on the fork and cause the bolt to shear off.
Anyway, check yours out and let us know what the mechanic says. |
