915 transmission problems and oil leak

1983 911 sc cab
blew out my clutch,repaired it but cant shift into 3rd gear,all the other gears work fine, any suggestions?,is there a service who will exchange old gear box for a fresh one?(chicago area)
also have passenger side oil leak,seams like its coming from somewhere behind air box ,leaking down onto the exhaust.
thanks in advance for any help

Was 3rd gear OK before you "blew out" the clutch? If it was, I would think you might have to adjust the shift linkage inside the tunnel.

it worked before, tried adjusting linkage, maybe try that again,any tips,thanks

Was the car in 3rd gear or were you attempting to shift into third gear when you "blew out the clutch"? Did you try shifting the transmission through the gears (including 3rd) while the engine and/or tranmission were out of the car? There is the possibility if the third gear synchro system was worn and/or over loaded ("forced" as in a speed shift) the synhcro hub or "dog teeth" failed. This will keep the transmission from going into 3rd. Have you drained the transmission to look for the "teeth" (small triangular shaped bits of metal) on the drain plug? There are national 915 transmission "exchange for rebuilt" vendors (Vertex) or there are places you can ship the tranmission for rebuilding. Jim

the drain plug was clear,it will go into third gear but pops out

These guys can fix it in a day or two.
You just have to limp up 94 or 90 150 miles to Madison.
They've taken some of my money over the years.
