vent window glass
I did a search and could find no answer. Can anyone tell me how to pull the glass out of the front vent window frame. It looks like the latch is held together with a small pin in the latch. This is on an early car.

Bill,
If it's anything like the year after yours (fixed window), you will need to remove the entire window frame from the door. The bottom and side pieces unscrew from the main door frame to replace the glass. Plan on an entire afternoon or more for this task.Be careful of the door paint. Sherwood |

glass removal
Thanks, Sherwood, I was wondering about just getting the glass out of the metal frame and leaving the frame in place in the door.Ive already had the whole frame assembly apart and back in to install new side window channel felt tracks and to install RS door panels with the leather strap actuators.I was wanting to make a lexan wind wing with some of the little aircraft vents like the "R" has. Thanks

Bill,
I was thinking along the same lines with a rotating bubble vent and Lexan piece from Spectre. However, mine are fixed vents. Do you plan on converting from a opening vent to a fixed Lexan type? If so, keep me up to date as you'll probably end up doing this before me. Sherwood |

I was hoping to just remove the glass and use it for a template. Cut out some lexan install the rotating vents from Wicks Airplane supply. I bought some 2 inch vents, since I didn't have a way to measure them on a real "R", I tried to estimate the size from pictures on Ernie Wilbergs page. The next size up that they have is 3.25" and I thought that might be to big. They are cheap so I figured if they were to small when they got here it wouldn't be a big deal to try the 3.25" size.

I agree with Sherwood. If you have a vent window that opens, you are going to have to remove the frame and unscrew the supporting frame. I don't think you can get it out otherwise.
Good luck, David
