Is the 911 a Man's Car?

Having seen so many Pelicanites who have motorcycle (Ducatis, HD's, etc.), and seeing that there are a few other cars in their stables, it occurs to me that I don't often see many women driving 911s (except for the newer ones with Tiptronic).

Is the older 911 a Man's Car?

I'd hazard a guess that there is not too many women using this board... so there might be an element of truth to your idea My wife is certainly not interested in driving my 911

There are Women 911 drivers, good ones, but it seems that the majority of 911 drivers are men.

open ended question I think...as compaired to what? A miata? (I know there is a long discussion on that one)

If you are talking for a majority (ownership) I would say yes the 911 is a Man's car...so what vehicle is it where the majority of owners are female?

Saw an article the other day on "Chick" cars. Number one on the list was the VW Cabrio followed by the PT Cruiser and ..... BMW Mini (Mini owners are fighting this distinction tooth and nail). The bug was also mentioned.

Anyway, I venture to say that a 911 is definitely a man's car. Women don't get off on it quirky-ness.

BTW, remember that Volvo that was designed by women for women? At a recent car show it was a total flop with both men and women...go figure.

I would say it depends on the woman. From my experience, their are two types. Type A women like cars, like to drive fast and take care of their cars. Type B women really don't care, point A to point B people, french fries and crap all over the car, bird stuff on the windshield, and notes, phone messages etc. If you name it, I have probably found it. Those that are type A will love a Porsche 911 and appreciate it. Those that are type B probably shouldn't be given cars.

I will never own a mini van and I will never allow anyone in my immediate family to buy one. I was dropped off in a Toyota Minivan as a kid and I hate mini vans with a passion.

No power steering, clunky gearbox, non user friendly interior, loud, hair trigger responsiveness, primitive heat and A/C (mine doesn't even have an electric fan anywhere)- air cooled are definitely "Butch".

The way it should be.

I love Porsches. Alway have, always will.

My wife loves that I have one, but will never learn to drive it. Simply no interest at all. She just likes to ride around in it.

My 2.5 year old call it "Daddys Car" whenever she sees a Porsche. She will not call them Porsches, just "Daddys Car".

Mans car sounds a little shovanistic

May more like " A car for guys that admire precise engineering and performance".

Mans car I think of a Corvette, Camero or Mustang and I need to grow a mustache and wear a thick gold chain.

About car / people associations, Over the years I've heard the following about Corvette owners:

- Men with small ones
- Blue collar wet dream
- Mid-life crisis
- For the "Guido" types

Interesting how this stuff comes about.

Rick, replace blue-collar with white-collar, and you have the stereotypes about porsches.

My SC is a man's car. My wife will never drive it as she hates the 915 tranny. She loves her daily driver '87 Carrera coupe though. Btw, she's not "butch".

My wife loves to drive OUR 911 (she likes to refer to it as hers) and she has always wanted a Porsche since I met her 20 years ago. I think that stems from the fact that her uncle always drove a 356 and her dad a 912. This helps when it comes to spending $$ on the 83sc, but now I think I might have to get my own p-car. BTW I have noticed alot of women driving the Nissan 350Z's, enough to where I would classify that as a "Chick Car".

Yeah, I believe the 911 is a man's car, but the Boxster, on the other hand... I can't believe how many I see here with female drivers; too bad they never stop to chat
