2.5L Race motor install :)

Alan and I installed the 2.5L race motor today. We have yet to start it because we wanted to change some of the oil line set ups. The first race is at the end of this month. I can't wait. I should be testing it at Willow some time in the next 2 weeks. I can't wait to hear it run.

Very nice.
That exhaust is going to be loud :)

Jack Olsen 01-02-2005 08:16 PM

Bring it out on the 19th!

Carrera3.5L 01-02-2005 08:29 PM

Beautiful! But that doesn't look like Ladera Ranch to me.:)

Ralph

P.S. - How much power and at what rpm do you see?

italcarguy 01-02-2005 08:40 PM

Chad,
I bet that exhaust sounds as good as it looks. I've never seen that set up before. Is it something you're trying as an experiment?

Plavan 01-02-2005 09:35 PM

Thanks guys. Jack- I may try to go out the 19th.
I do not think my HOA and neighbors would like me installing a motor in Ladera Ranch :). I could see all the notices on my door if we tried that. Plus, my driveway sucks.
Alan was nice enough to come buy and pick up my car with his new and SWEET Featherlight 24 foot enclosed Aluminum trailer. That thing is very nice. He took it to his house because he has all the right tools and more importantly, more room.
The exhaust is what some POC guys use. I'm borrowing that one from Alan because it has a bung for the wide-band sensor to check the mixture. I'm going to try it out and see if I like it. If I like it, I will be buying one. It's stainless steel so no corrosion. I am told it sounds awesome and adds a couple HP.
We are figuring it will have 240hp. It is identical to an ST motor so we really do not know :). I plan on getting it on a dyno at some point.
I have to get a corner balance and alignment done once we get it running.
Then it is off to the races!

can we get some specs on that beauty? is this from the 2.7 longblock you had? i like that you opted for the black shroud.

Plavan 01-02-2005 09:46 PM

Specs-
The internals: 1967 alum case bored out spigots, piston squirter's, oil bypass mod, bearing mod, Std/Std counterweighted 2.0L crank, 2.0L rods, ARP rod bolts, Carrera oil pump, Boat tailed, Mooned cylinders, 89 MM Mahle cylinders re plated, 89mm J&E pistons 10.5:1, GE80 profile cams, Stock 2.7 valves, Heads ported and polished, 37mm intake, 39mm exhaust, CIS ports welded up, EBS racing springs with ti retainers, 46mm PMO carbs with their new super tall manifolds, plus all new zinc dipped hardware and powder coated goodies :)
Sould be a screamer, although I will keep it under 7500RPM (We will see how long that lasts :) ) I want a couple seasons out of it before a rebuild.

bob tilton 01-02-2005 09:54 PM

sweet! interesting to read the specs of a final build considering all the dicussions (rods, crank, case, etc) on this board. well done!

Wholey Crap....

You did recreate an ST motor. Did you have Frank Beck help out?

Wow! sweet mill. Shawn.

126coupe 01-03-2005 06:17 AM

Chad looks great! I love when engine builders go the extra mile and expense to plate and powdercoat. Not that expensive but well worth it! You tend to leave the deck lid open at the track so people can drool SEE you at tech on the 15th at Irwindale

Plavan 01-03-2005 06:36 AM

Shawn- Frank Beck is a great mechanic and friend, but he is too far away from me (AZ). Alan from Aase Motors did all the work rebuilding. He performs great work as you can tell.

Mark- see you there!

MotoSook 01-03-2005 06:40 AM

WOW! That's a great looking engine...and spec! Can't wait to see the dyno chart...good luck at the first race!

Vintage911Racer 01-03-2005 07:04 AM

Chad, Looks nice.

I see you even went with the new WEVO Motor mounts.. That exhaust looks sweet as well. I tell you what buddy, I expect you to be a front runner now. Don't dissapoint me. :D

Have you fired it up yet? My dad sent me pictures of his motor.
Holy poop. That thing looks bad ass.

You guys have the same motor right???? Do you know if the internals are the same?

Plavan 01-03-2005 08:51 AM

Hey Mark,
Yes, your dad's motor looks just as good. I think your dad has different valves and some other tidbits.
Alan does great finishing work. We plan on firing it up this week after we change a few AN oil fittings. We could of fired it up but it makes no sense to fill it with oil, then drain it. We want to fix the oil lines before a proper break-in is done.
Alan is also going to be fixing that "rats nest" of wires in the engine compartment. It will be nice to get all those voltage regulator stuff out of there. I have a new Alt with the internal regulator.

Vintage911Racer 01-03-2005 09:04 AM

Whats the deal on the Exhaust? Do they make those only for 2.5 or do those work on 2.0 as well. What is the HP Increase if any? Sound, do they sound like Franks or do they sound like a regular open exhaust?

You are going to have a total new car.

MichiganMat 01-03-2005 10:12 AM

yummy... Wevo engine mounts.

I really like the grey engine tin too, it looks much cleaner than the standard gloss-black.

sammygon1 01-03-2005 10:21 AM

Can we see a pic of what the exhaust looks like on the car. Thanks, Sam

Plavan 01-03-2005 12:39 PM

Spotting oil leaks is much easier on light colored engine tin (Not to say it will leak! :p ) We like the lt grey tin also. I will get a picture with the exhaust later. I do not think a have a full view photo.
Mark- I have been told it will add a "few" HP. Nothing like the "staged" exhaust (Also not $2500 either :) ) Allan thinks around 4-5 HP. The sound is supposed to be great.
