Clutch wear

Sorry for the stupid question here.

My 915 goes into first gear very easily as I coast to a stop. Is there any reason why I shouldn't just leave the clutch pedal depressed when I'm waiting for the light to change? In the past I would put it in neutral as I waited for a green light and then sometimes struggle mightily to get it into first gear when the light changed.

Thanks, Ben

j.p., is the wear really enough to worry about?

Only if you do it all the time and how long the stop light is.

It can also damage the thrust bearing on the crank, especially if you have a heavy duty clutch.

Ben,
If it doesn't go in at first try letting out the clutch ( bumping the clutch a little) before you try again. Or you can go into second and then up into first.

Thanks Bob. I haven't heard of "bumping" the clutch. I'll give it a try next time.

Thanks, Ben

I f you wait to depress the clutch to just before going into 1. the syncro's is still running inside the gearbox, and it is easy to engage 1. if the clutch stays depressed for to long, the gears inside the comes to a stop, and it seems easyer to engage 2. and into 1. without letting the fot off the clutch.

Thanks Steand. I've read over ton's of posts on this topic cause my tranny is good, but not near perfect. I was hoping my gliding it into first just before stopping would be the answer, but I don't want to spend $$ on a premature clutch failure if that is the result.

Thanks again, Ben
