911SC 1982 Indicators and Hazards stopped working
Hi
I am new here and I have just got my first 911 four weeks ago, a 1982 911 SC UK Spec. The car is great with a great history, but today my indicators and hazards no longer work. I have checked with my Haynes Manual and there seems to be a relay, so I may change this, but has anybody else experienced this? Any pointers would be great. The other weird thing is that my cars dis-arming system now does'nt work either, strange. The above was as of 16-12-04, I have some more info below as of today 04-01-05. I have a bit more info. I have noticed that when the car has been running for sometime the indicators and hazards stop working, but when its laid up on the Drive for 2 days, they start working again, this is really confusing me, please help guys, I am pretty certain its the relay, but now I have an issue in locating the relay. I have a box attached to the wing in the luggage area in the front of the car containing cylindar like relays and fuses, but I have also read many articles saying the indicator relay is behind the dash, please could someone shed some light, as my Bentleys Service Manual still has not arrived. Its an 1982 UK 911 SC. Many thanks in advance of some help. Roy. This is my car: http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1104804442.jpg |
Roy, The relay is behind the oil pressure gauge. You will have to remove the gauge to access the relay. Dan

Hi Dan
Apologies for delay in getting back to you. Right well I have some news on this problem. I managed to locate and removed relay, basically remove clock and speedo and there it was. I then went to halfords, checked the book for the correct relay for the Porsche, fitted it tested hazards all ok, but when tested indicators left and right both Green Arrow dash indicator lights would flash as well as the correct direction indicators lights on outside of car, ie, indicate to go left and works fine outside, but both green arrows flash instead of direction light on dash board, weird. Not happy with this I put the old relay back in and it worked, then it would'nt, to cut a long story short I notice that it stopped when moved, so I decided to remove the plastic case surrounding the relay and found that where the 4 blades connect to the PCB of the relay, there was dry solder joints causing a break, so with soldering iron heated and a real of solder I resoldered those joints, refitted relay tested and all working perfectly even when I am moving the relay and pulling at it whilst indicating, I am very pleased with the result, but also very puzzled why the new relay did what it did. Thanks for your help, much appreciated. Kind regards Roy. |
For some reason only a Hella relay worked for me....

Hi mede8er & Jessett100
The relay that I repaired was in fact a Hella, but when I tried to get hold of one from several Motor Factors, they called Hella and Hella said its not an after market product, ie, you have to go to Porsche and get one! How true is this guys? Does Pelican supply Hella relays? Thanks Roy. |
Hi Roy.Sorry for the bad advice. According to my Bentley manual, the relay is on the left side of the steering wheel , behind the oil pressure gauge. Is your 911 a righthand drive?I would assume it is, since your in the UK. Dan
