Isolated electrical problem-now what
I'm hoping to get some help here. When I purchased the car 9/04 the clock and the interior lights wouldn't work unless the ingtion was on. The first time I took it to my mechanic for some other repairs I asked him to check it out. When I picked the car up everything worked as it should. However, I ended up with a drain on the battery. It would completely drain after sitting for 5 days. I didn't put 2 & 2 together as I was driving the car every day until recently, when the battery issue began. After searching many posts and following Waynes advice in the 101 book I isolated it to one of the red wires connected to the battery. By the way, the drain was 270 ma from the battery. The car runs fine and everything works with wire disconnected as long as the car is running. With the ingition off, no interior lights or clock. Another interesting gremlin: with the wire connected my sunroof and power mirrors operate with the ignition off. Where should this power source be coming from, if not off the battery, and why would the drain be so high? Any help would be appreciated.

It almost sounds like you have some crossed wires on the fusebox.
On the upper side of the fusebox, the feeds are either power or "switched power" You need to get a wiring diagram to help you sort this one out. AFJuvat

I was afraid of that. I have the Bentley manual, I guess I'll start there. Thanks for the help.

An update; I hooked everything up as previously described except that I disabled the stereo and antenna, still the same 270ma draw. I had the Bentley manual handy and started tracing wires on the top of the fuse box. I noticed that a jumper wire had been run from the A/C fuse to the lighter fuse, which worked with the car on or off, (the lighter not the AC). I removed the jumper and no draw. The lighter worked with the ignition on but not with it off. Re-connected the stereo and antenna and very little draw: about 18ma. I know the wiring still isn't correct but it looks like I found the culprit. Now who to blame: PO or my mechanic?
