Value of 1965 356C
Met a fellow at a cocktail party tonight and we started talking about Pcars. Turns out he has a 1965 365C coupe sitting in his garage. The good news- all original with no accidents, original cream/white paint, black leather interior, and all documentation (he is original owner). He loves the car and is unsure what to do with it.
The bad news- car is sitting for 20 yrs without starting- has rust in the pans and door pillars and around the fenders, so obviously needs major restoration. He described the interior as in very good condition. My questions are 1) what is the car worth unrestored and what is it worth restored 2) How much would it cost to restore it and 3) who would be the best person to restore such a car ? Thx Charles

Rough estimates... You say nothing about engine / tranny condition, probably frozen or damaged, else he'd not have parked it 20 years ago !
1) unrestored ? Almost impossible to tell - <10K to me... Too many questions. In fact $5K to me.... 2) A lot more than it is worth.... $10K for rust and paint minimum, probably another $2000 of rubber, trim and unseen stuff such as brakes, maybe $8000 more for the motor/tranny if necessary, less if you are lucky... 3) You. If you farm it out, you will be upside down in no time... you'll have $30K+ in the car in a heartbeat and it's not worth that much when finished - well not yet at least, maybe in a few years ;-) PS: I sold my 65C last year so I don't think I am off base. $15K, great car, ****ty paint job... Bought a 57A 6 months ago for the same price, same condition (great car, ****ty paint)... Last edited by Deschodt; 01-06-2005 at 05:27 PM.. |
