Phoenix drive on December 27

I can't do the whole thing but I most likely can be at the starting point to give all you knuckleheads a proper send off. And I'll even use all of my fingers!

Waffle House, Bell Road and I-17 at 9am?

The participants should outline the route though.

Sorry Mark, in the "Moving to Arizona" thread, there was talk of a drive and a few dates were thrown out there. I started a new thread to stay on topic and not completely hi-jack the other one.

Amoung the dates were Dec 27 and Jan 2. I have several issues ongoing with my car (MFI, interior removed, etc) and don't trust it on extended runs. However, I probably could meet up for the start.

Hi Mark and Don,

I'd like to get a ride going. Bruce Huling will be in a vintage (motorcycle race) Jan 2. So, I am favoring Dec 27. I hope all who have expressed interest are OK with that date. There are some folks from the last run who would like to go I think, e.g. JR & Joe Asksa, as well as some folks I havent met yet. Im open on where we run and how long (all day is OK with me), but I think meeting at 9AM at the Waffle House on I17 and Bell (NW corner) is firm.

What do you think?

Greg

Hi All,

I will be there Dec 26 & Jan 2, worst case is I eat breakfast and have a nice ride anyway.

Default ride would be I17 to Church Rock Road, to Sedona, to Jerome, to Presoctt, to Wickenburg, to Phoenix. Great ride, all day run though. I'm open to any suggestions though.

BTW, I'll be there. I'm bringing one of my younger cousins along - he's never ridden in the car, and I might let him drive some stretches, depending on conditions (he has a learner's permit).

We'll be driving a red RS America. See ya Monday!

monday 27th 9am meet at waffle house. My vote for route is north to carefree highway, west to wickenberg, north to precott via yarnell hill, lunch aftre dropping back into prescott, then return via BAGDAD, cutting down vulture mine road (NO TRAFFIC!) to I-10. Thus avoiding freeways (except for the 10 miles or so to carefree highway) and sticking to 2 laners with twisties as much as possible. The return route is very different as most have not gone that route I am guessing. We can weigh in on routes at breakfast. I am not much for open freeway riding.

So how long is this route going to be? I'm trying to decide how long how many miles I'm willing to drive an unknown quantity. The trip up there from Ahwatukee may be enough.

Mark,

Do not feel alone, I had no idea that there was a drive going on!

Do not have time to do the run right now, doing an overseas flight on Tuesday but would stop by and chat with you guys!

Is 9:00 a.m. the "get there" time or the "leave there" time?

Lee,

9AM would be the "leave" time. (you know how that goes)

just for thought...

some guys are gonna show for just a meet and greet. Not all will be able to run with us.

With that in mind, the absolute deadline for show and run timex could bend a little bit. Not like a half hour. Just a few minutes.

Let's plan to meet early (like at 8:15) to allow for the traffic challenged. I will wait for a few....I can catch up later...Shawn.

Edit: I finally did mount one seat after all.

Nice seats! The PRESSURE of the holidays sure can get to a person (me!) I had my car loaded and ready to fly this morning (Sunday) thinking it was monday already (lost a day somewhere). Probably would have sat there at the waffle house wondering what happened to everyone. Hah!
So, I will see ya all MONDAY as planned (Dec 27) at the w-house at bell and I-17 for a 9am departure. I plan to get there at 8 ish so I can at least make like a water cooled car, and kick some tires. As far as the distances. Hmm. If this is a weather front coming through we may want to go to Yarnell for lunch, then do the bagdad return route. That should keep us out of any inclement weather normally found higher up. If we leave at 9am Yarnell would make an early lunch at about 11 ish. If continue to Prescott, add another hour. From there, figure another hour and one half or so via bagdad back to wickenberg. I will bring a roadmap and we can spread it out and talk options. I really like the Bagdad route as it is an hour worth of twisties in the middle of nowhere. Then there is the vulture mine road back to I-10 which allows you to stretch your cars legs a bit. For those wilkling to stick with me a bit longer, I will take you from the vulture mine road back to Estrella Park for a stop at the gas station and market, final goodbye's etc. via two laners through the farm country. No traffic, nice view. From there it is only about 25 minutes to phoenix or 45 minutes to scottsdale/mesa.
