Gt1, Gt2, Gt3 ?

Please don't tell me to do a search....I have not found my answer using the search function.

In this forum and Excellence Magazine, I see several races involving GT1, GT2, and GT3 P-cars. I am not talking about the ones you can buy from the factory. What are the classifications for each? Is it a weight/horsepower ratio? I am just trying to fill my head with knowledge.

Thanks, David

David, that's a tough question. SCCA has GT classes 1 through 5 or 6. POC has Z1-Z4 or GT1-4 depending on if it's a race class or a TT class. the ALMS series has GT and GTS.

I all has to do with weight, engine displacement and power plus other factors. You will get an idea if you read the POC rules posted in .pdf on the poc site. Same with SCCA, which I read has posted the rule book on the Net for the first time this year.

The GT's are the most highly modified and pure race cars on the track except for formula cars in the case of SCCA.

This might shed some light on things:

David,

If what you have read is in regards to PCA racing then here is a basic breakdown. For the full breakdown go to http://www.pca.org and click on the Club Racing link.

GT1=Turbo/Supercharged cars that are not at factory spec.

GT2=3.6L or larger naturally aspirated (no Trubo) that are not at factory spec.

GT3=Maximum of 3.4L cars that are not at factory spec.

GT4=Maximum of 2.8L cars that are not at factory spec.

And there are more as the engines get smaller. Each has class limitations that need to be followed.
