89 Carrera Odd Headlight Issue

Drove my Carrera to my weekend volunteer time at the SPCA and, when I got downtown, noticed (from the reflection in the cars ahead of me) that my headlights were on. Obviously, I verified that the switch was, indeed, off.

When I arrived, I checked things out and it seems as though they were 'mostly on' because, they'd get brighter when I'd pull on the switch. Since it was noon, I have no idea whether the high beams or low were 'mostly on'.

Switched on and off to no effect. Switched on, toggled the high beams, then turned them off and, then, they did shut off completely.

Since the shelter's in a pretty rough neighborhood, I didn't shut the car down to see if that any effect, lest it not start again due to the unknown electrical gremlins.

I'm wondering what the cause of this may be.

Headlight switch possibly about ready to go?
I'd bet on the dimmer/stalk except I installed a new one about this time last year.
Maybe an intermittent short?

Any guidance would be appreciated.

Thanks!
