DME coil vs CDI coil

I did some searching and I don't think this has been covered.

The question is whether a DME coil is very close to a CDI coil or not. I can't help noticing that the CDI coil is around 200 bucks in the pelican catalog, and the DME coil is only about sixty. I don't know much about the carrrera 3.2 ignition, perhaps it has totally different coil requirements.

If you've been around you've seen the debate about using the bosch blue coil on a CDI, as on an SC. I DO NOT want to re-open that debate here, but post from Steve Weiner seems more informed than most of what I have seen.

Its the same situation when people use MSD's ignitions with coils other than MSD ones. In short, coils are NOT all the same,...... :)

A coil is a coil is a coil, generally!

Most any coil will work with a CDI system but not for a TCI system (like a 3.2).
The key value though is the turns ratio. It should be about 100:1 which the
blue Bosch (later) should have. Avoid the silver Bosch coils, as they are not
reliable.

CDI ignitions do not use a coil . I just looks like a coil , but its not . Completely different part .

WRONG!

CDI systems use an ignition coil with less inductance (generally), and they basically function
as a pulse transformer. Read the literature and NOT the marketing B.S.

Ridiculous! More B.S. to get you to waste your money.

Like I said before, read the technical info at www.systemsc.com/technical.htm

The coil has NO effect on the input current (power) and the spark energy, not
like a conventional ignition.

Well, my car does seem to be running just fine with this set-up.
