Lift is Here! Hooray!

The Mohawk scissors lift has arrived and is being used for the first time today. I think I will do the job quite well for 911 work. Engine R&R will be a breeze! Plenty of room underneath. Quiet too, so those late night work sessions will not wake up the family.

Quality looks very good, and the power unit and documentation are excellent. Lifts 3 tons, so no problems with Porsche work. With the car on, it is _very_ stable - impressive!

Bought from Ontool.com, they had a great price and the Mohawk dealer was amazed that it was sold so cheap.

Wow!

That looks like a great tool to have in the garage. How is it for storage after you are done with it. Does it fold up nice and neat and can be tucked away in a corner someplace when not in use.

Cool

CB..looks great..I see a dual piston yes/no??..I did a SnapOn mid rise..found it used in perfect shape..it can be rolled around if needed...I think it was a great investment..it makes working on the 911 a gentlemans job..best of luck.......Ron

Cost was...

something I forgot to mention! $1850 or so plus $100 shipping and the PA sales tax. This was $300 cheaper (ontool.com) than the cost from anyone else.

Dual Piston it is, with two mechanical locks and slow drop valving. Car is really ROCK solid sitting on it, much more secure than my old two post lift.

CB.....forgot to mention..I try not to leave piston in an "out" position to prevent corrosion/leak, and I grease the rod/seal periodically...seems like a good deal...IMHO, every weekend wrench should have one....a group buy should get a great price..............Ron

Chris,

I'm interested in the alignment stands in the pictures. Where do you get those? They seem like a good idea. How well do they work? Do you use them for the rear wheels too?

How does it compare to the Eagle at www.eagleequip.com?
http://66.113.231.142/page/EE/PROD/LI-LM/602-001 ($1545)or
http://66.113.231.142/page/EE/PROD/LI-LM/602-002 ($1795)
I've been looking at one of these but am concerned about storage. I'd like to keep it stored under the P car but I think I'd have to put 2 x 8's down to get the car high enough to go over the lift?

Neither I or Google could find www.Ontool.com

How high does it lift? The lift is a great tool! If I add up the time my lift has saved me over working on my back...I've already paid for 2 or 3 of them!

And YEAH! What is the deal with the alignment stands? I want some

Souk, I am in the process of making some stands up to go with my new Bend Pak 48" lift. I just picked up 4 wheel dollys which I am going to add platforms on top of. This will allow me to lower car onto them and they will roll slightly as the suspension/wheels relax. This will allow me to work on a creeper and adjust suspension. I intend to set-up parallel strings to set tow and I have an eletronic level for camber. I am sick of buying tires for my wifes lowered 325i !!! These wheel dollies are often on sale at HF all-though I just picked mine up locally for $34.95 per set of two. Greased plates on stands would work too, but I can use these dollies for other projects later!

I love my new scissors lift!!!!!!!!!!!
I just need to finish working on the wifes Bimmer so I can start playing with my 911 again!

Tim, I thought about those too. And I got that e-mail from HF for the dollies at 1/2 price (I love those e-mails!..but my wallet notta lika so much). I will probably make something like you have (when I build a new shop with a recess for the lift or I buy a different lift), but the only problem I have right now is that I have runners (ramps) along side of my lift so I can crive my car over the lift. I could remove the ramps, but it's not as easy as I would like. I may have to play around with some imagineering

I just have two 2 x 10s that I lay down to pull the Bimmer on. It just clears, then I slide them out of there after I lift. I will probably drill a couple holes on each side in the concrete and put a couple "dowel" pins in the boards so that I can drop em in place in a hurry yet not have them wanting to slide as a temporary setup.

Eventually I am going to cut out my floor and pour a recessed floor for the lift (I will have to replumb my drain so it will not be fun). I have not tried the 911 yet but 2 x10's seem fine for my lowered 325i and my daughters 924. I just lay a piece of 3/4 ply down in front of the 2 x and this allows the wheels to roll up with out the boards sliding.

Guys,

Lift goes up 4 feet (48"). I can hit the garage ceiling (8' in my little garage) with a 911 lifting from the body.

I think it compares pretty well with the Eagle stand you mentioned. I do have a stacked set of 2x12's on each side with plywood ramps to drive over it and keep the garage space. Thom has built his into the floor of his new garage which looks great, I would like that!

The alignment stands are a Snap-On part that I bought used years ago when many shops upgraded to computer based laser alignment systems. Paid $100 for them. I have a set with floating turntables, and a set without. I swap them from front to back to align each end of the car. Also excellent for setting (no) preload on swaybars and the like, and checking tire clearances, etc. I use them quite a bit! You could make the stands out of sturdy metal, and put threaded feet on them like these, but the turntable is better to buy, Longacre has very nice ones (and stands as well!) for much less than Snap-On. You could also use two 12x12 pieces of masonite (smooth sides facing each other) with grease between them as a "budget" turntable/floating wheel support. I did this for many years and it worked great.

I'll be happy to take some detailed picks of the stands if you like so the more hands on types can try and duplicate. These are pretty heavy duty, I've put SUV's on them with no problems!

Cheers,

Chris

Yeah, I wanna hear more about the stands, too. I was thinking of making a set.

I have the same lift, but recessed into the floor. I mounted the hydraulics on the wall, with the lines going through the floor in a piece of ABS pipe. I really wish I'd put in some sort of a drain; I was cocksure I wouldn't need it.

Chris,

Thanks for your reply! Question about the alignment stands that are positioned for the rear wheels in your pictures. Do they allow movement of the tire side to side?

The stands shown on the rear don't move that much, I only use them to keep the car level. The perfect solution is turntables on all 4 corners. I cheat by using the "masonite" turntable described above to get the non-turntable stands to float the wheels. Works great!

I suspect that OnTool.com closed up shop. They lost money on this lift, so perhaps that was a trend...

Here is where i just got mine from and shipping was free!http://www.asedeals.com/mid_rise_lift.html

It took about a 1 1/2 weeks (it was drop shipped from CA to Oh)
It is the Bend Pak MD-6xp for $1400. It seems to be good quality.

I can't seem to post a picture today. Must be due to the spam attack?
