What to use on seat sliders??
 

i just put my newly upholstered seat back in the 911, but the sliders dont want to move freely, whats the best type of grease/lubricant to use on them?

I like to clean them as much as possible and use very little grease. White lithium is a good ol' stand by, but anything that won't melt when the car sits in the sun locked up will do. Something that doesn't stink. A synthetic wheel bearing grease would be a good choice for that.

The nice thing about white grease is that if and when you reach under the seat and get some grease on your hand, it's not that obnoxious.

ok, next dumb question, how do you take them apart?

The seat will slide all the way off the sliders going forward, but they will hit on some of the mounting bolts, which must be removed first.

This has been the case with the years/models I have owned.

lol, i guess i should have been more clear...i took them out of the car, recovered the seat, and the sliders seemed to slide good out of the car, so i put everything back together and reinstalled the seat, but the sliders wouldnt move freely, so now i'm thinking about taking everything back out and greasing the sliders, but when the sliders were out the first time, i tried to seperate the top and bottom slider but they wouldnt come apart, maybe i just didnt pull hard enough...thanks

edit:by the way, its the non-sports seat out of a 1979 911sc

Dunno about your car, but on my 80, two of the 10 mm nuts are welded to the underside of the seat brackets (same side), while the other two float in small cages. Tighten the two static ones first, then get in the seat and move it back and forth a couple of times (with the bolts started) to be sure you're not tightening that rail in a position that will cause it to bind. When it's sliding smoothly, get out carefully and fully tighten them. HTH,
