Slant Nose Headlight Questions

I'm wanting to upgrade the flip up headlights in my slant nose.
Whoever originally did the SN conversion did a decent job except for the headlights.

I have been told that porsche 944 and maxda rx7 units were the original choices for the conversion?

Need to know anyone that can shed (ahem) light on this subject.

The existing units are hideous in function, there is no adjustability available to aim them and i really have no need to look up into the trees as i'm driving.

I'm trying to find out what years of 944 lights are/were used for these conversions.
Seeing that 944 light units are readily available, i don't want to taint the porsche blood with mazda parts.

I have read an old thread with mr. bch vowing to cure this problem (3 years old).

Looking at some of the pics, i see a mazda unit that bolts into an inner fender "bucket" with 3 studs.
The units in mine do not have any buckets but rather mount onto some kind of pivot shaft.
THIS IS NOT A SHAFT GOING THROUGH THE TRUNK !!
EACH SIDE IS INDEPENDANT OF THE OTHER.

Any input from slant owners would be appreciated !!!

Mine are from a Mazda, I think. They each work by a motor that goes around like a clock, about 3/4 of the way. The door comes up and then down. Attached to the door is a metal arm that pushes the cover up. I had problems with the arm breaking, and it was a pain to get them to work, but I did. You're right about adjustments. I cant seem to get the rectangular bulbs out by the screws, but I'm still trying. I hope one doesn't go out. I wish I could provide you with some pictures, but I cant. Maybe soon, when I get my new camera. PM me if you have questions.

My bulbs are round and from looking on ebay, it seems my assemblies are from a 944 or such, not mazda.

I think strupgolf meant the headlight motors are mazda not the lamp assemblies. Most aftermarket slantnose conversions used two mazda rx7 motors adapted to work, one on each side. The factory system had one central motor linked to a crossbar that lifted the headlight buckets. I don't know if anything ever came of that old thread from mr.bch.

Point i'm trying to make is, in all the old threads i have read the cars have a bucket mounted to the bottom of the fender into which the pop-up assembly bolts.
Mine does not have this bucket but rather a shaft/tube arrangment.
I'm not sure of the actual motor's brand as they are far too nasty to get any info off of.

This has me thinking that my setup may be from a 944 or 924 perhaps.

A 924 or 944 has a central motor and shaft to raise the lights. If you have independent motors you have an aftermarket rig.

Can you post some pics of your config?

Post a pic or two and I'll be able to tell you almost anything you need to know even if they are OEM or aftermarket.

My headlights also sit in, or go into, buckets when closed. I think the buckets are attached to the fenders. 2 seperate motors, each wired. I dont know about the 944 system, but Ive seen round headlights iin them.

pa911, I'm not sure why the latch panel has been modified but that looks to be a factory set up. At least the pictured parts are. If the car is not an original factory slant nose the h/l system most likely came out of one. It's also possible that someone has duplicated the oem componants. Most everything in the system were 944 parts and could easily been modified to work if someone invested the effort.
Got any pics of the headlights and fenders both open and closed?

paslantnose, non oem sytem No doubt. your's uses two mazda RX7 motors to lift the h/l. These were poorly engineered systems and have more weak points than good. Sorry!
