I found a place that has a 12 x 15 serpentine condenser for $50.00 This may be a better choice for the front of the wheel location. Also, where and how are you getting R-12? Do you have a 609 Cert? I've also heard that R134 is going up in price. |
I think I picked up the condensor on ebay for about 140.00 or so. The procooler was a bit painful to stomach but I have a black car in Atlanta and I've had about enough or sweating in traffic. I'll post pics of the install when it happens but it will probably need to get a little warmer outside to motivate me.
Does anyone have the DIY guide for making you own vac pump. I think somebody had instructions showing how one can be made out of an old refrigerator compressor Thanks, Chuck |

How about this, everyone send me $3.00 and I'll pool the money together and buy a good pump and we can all share it. Of course, we'll keep it at my house when it is not in use.

okay - yeah that looks decent. what was the name of the co. in san diego that sells this? also, is it robust enough so rocks don't create leaks? if not you may want to think about some sturdy stainless screen to fab a rock shield.
with the exception of all the extra hoses and fittings ( a necessary evil) an additional unit mounted in front of the left rear tire would help. think about using a marine 3" duct fan if there is not enough room for the flat fans seen on this post. you can direct the air with some shielding over the rad. |
Dave: I bought some "sprung steel" from Home Depot to serve as a rock guard. I cut it to fit, bent it to protect the bottom of the condenser, and then painted it black. I also took some 3/8" tubing and split it so I could put it all around the edges of the rock guard (that sprung steel is like razor wire after it's cut). It all worked out pretty well, if I do say so myself. Next time it's in for service, take a look!

So Scott...did you keep any of the other condensors, or is that the only one? Any directions come with it, and finally, have you...or any of the rest, thought about writing an article...what a huge benefit to the entire <and hot> community.

Other condensers? -- Yes, I kept all of the factory condensers, and added the fender condenser/fan. Directions? -- No. I made it up as I went along. :eek: Article? -- I hadn't considered it. It's not a difficult installation. It connects "in series" with the other condensers. Basically, the a/c hose that goes through the wheel well to the factory front condenser is rerouted to the new condenser. Then, the output of the new condenser is connected to the input of the original front condenser. The fan is run through a basic relay, with the trigger being the power line to the existing front condenser fan. Frankly, I don't remember where I got the power for the fan, but I did put an in-line automotive (blade) fuse in the circuit. Scott |

Has anyone found an evaporator that is more efficient than the factory one. Found a website that sells an entire kit for reasonable money but I just want to buy their vent and evap
www.retroair.com When using 134 is it necessary to change to a different expansion valve also? I'm pretty sure that the weakness in these earlier 911's is primarily condensor area. Second to that would be air flow so I'm wondering if it will even make much difference to change the factory evaporator. Any ideas? Thanks, Chuck |
$1400 for that entire kit is a fair price....

niner11 I was told by a respected local Porsche wrench that when converting to R134A that the expansion valve had to be tweeked / adjusted for optimal performance.I decided to go with HC12 so I never took him up on his offer to adjust my new expansion valve.
