Harold,
OK, 2c. Get under the car and see if the tunnel in dented up, particularly at the transmission coupling but also under the shifter. Gas the car ever been seriously damaged? I agree with Randy’s possibilities also. Drain the oil, remove the shift pivot plate and see if there are any extraneous pieces in there. Be sure to filter the oil through cheesecloth or something so nothing escapes. This is an opportunity to put in fresh Swepco. I would do this first to rule out obvious internal issues. The simple test for improper clutch cable adjustment or oil on the clutch disc is to let it idle in neutral while both warm and stone cold, depress the clutch, wait about ten seconds, and put it in reverse. It shouldn’t grind but there might be a slight “click” when warm. I agree with JW that it may just be an adjustment issue but the problem has been there since you bought the 911. What history do you have on the car? Has anyone been in the transmission? Occasionally if someone turns over a good but well worn syncro, it can act like this. Best, Grady |
Harold,
Were you able to drain the oil and check the pivot plate? Best, Grady |
same issue here. mine has about 100k on it. its done it from day one and i've probably added 20-25k without problems.
i've never tried adjusting it, i just live with it! i put it down to worn synchros....... fwiw, mine shifts nicely, no slop compared to other cars a tried. |
