Crying the Blues followed by a sigh of relief
Well I did my first valve adjustment this weekend on my 84 along with cleaning the front 28 row oil cooler and adding a fan. Other than a little hard on the back and eyes ( I have no line bifocals and working under the car is always a treat). Put everything back together and sweet. no leaks and not noise. Both a good thing. Drove it around the big block to warm it up to check the oil, and when I got back into the drive way, I was dropping oil like there was no tomorrow. Now the oil pressure never dropped and the idiot light never came on but you could look down the road and see the drops of oil and running in the driveway I was putting off some nice oil smoke.
Imagine my thoughts, did I screw something up? did I not torque something up right? How much money and time will this take? Simple answer, I blew a cam oil line hose on the right side (blew left one last year but in drops not stream). When I finally got it cold enought and the light friendly enough to see in the engine compartment, I found a gapping gash in the hose. Talk about relief, I didn't screw anything up just 20 years of wear and tear coming at the wrong time. I will try to replace without taking ac bracket and muffler off, but it looks like a challenge. Thought I would share my fun.

That must have been a real scare! But take solace in the fact that it will be another item checked off the "To-do" list.
Oh, and where are the pics?? ![]()
