No spark....think i found the problem but still need help

My brother's 1973 911T CIS porsche is finally all done and put back together and after some initial battery problems we have now have a good charge to start the motor. However we can't get the motor to start.

I checked for fuel and we're getting fuel.

I checked for spark and we don't have any spark.

-----

Having looking through the manual a little bit i know that i have to do some testing on the CDS unit and make sure that it is operating properly.

However before i go through that i noticed that there should be a wire connected to the housing of the distributor that is power or voltage from the CDS unit correct? This is what i got from the chilton's manual. Or am i wrong?

If i'm right, then where does this wire originate from because i can't find any "loose" or "unconnected" wires i didn't connect. So maybe it got caught up somewhere so i have to know where it originates to trace it and find it.

Any help anyone can give me is appreciated.

Jim

PS

If i'm wrong and there is no need for that wire, any other ideas why i'm not getting spark? Are there some testing procedures online somewhere that i can go through? thanks again

That wire goes from the cds unit to the dizzy and connects to the tab on the side of it. I think the wire is white and connects to the dizzy and is piggy backed with the black/purple going to the tach (its been a while for me with points engines)

Thanks.....i'm going to look at it in the next few days and see if i can find it. I found a small diagram searching through the threads i'm going to use as well.

The black/purple wire that i have is connected to a much larger wire and i think goes to ground maybe? I'm going to have to look.

thanks again

The black and purple only gives tach inpulse you need a wire to indicate switching from the points or hall effect which ever you have. I think its a white wire there is only 1 black 1 red and one white coming from the cds box
