land of 1000 vacuum leaks
having pulled the engine/trans on my 180,000 mile 77 911 to rebuild the trans, i am amazed at the vacuum leaks i found.
1: CIS air tube. there is a wishbone shaped aluminum tube that runs behind the air box, with small rubber hoses on each of the three ends. the tube sits just above the air duct for the engine mounted oil cooler. it looks like it was rubbing at this point, or got bent and fatigued the metal, as there was a nice crack and a gap in the metal. 2: vacuum hose for power brakes. this runs alongside the trans with the fuel lines, and then snakes over the torsion bar tube, and connects to a barbed fitting. the hose was splitting, with leaks. this was a good time to replace the oil breather hoses as well. most everything was dead. anxious to get the rebuilt tranny back in there and see how it shifts! thnx to this list for all of the good tech articles on 915 rebuilding! |
