917 Reproduction, Any thoughts

What do you guys think about this?

I want one bad!

Check out the link:

http://www.fantasyjunction.com/search.php?dd=www.fantasyjunction.com:auto:FJ111

The company that makes these is called kraftwerkz, they are made in Australia and cost about 65K as a roller with no engine and no tranny, but it comes painted just like this one.

I think I would have to install some twin turbo, twin pluged, modified monster in there. Of course I would take it to the DMV and have it licenced as a kit car for street use. Picture me going thru the Drive thru in one of these

Look on line it is www.kraftwerkz.net

I e-mailed them and asked about shipping they fly it to you for like 7K.

Of course I am not ready to give some joker in that kind of money unless it was in person, so I guess I will have to plan a trip to Australia.

Do you think the dollar will get strong enough so I can purchase it for 20K US?

There was one at Rennsport II. Not sure if it is the same manufacturer, but looks similar. The car was very nicely done.

Sorry, but something about that add stinks. "The car can be fitted with a 5.4 litre flat-12 at extra cost, should the new owner so desire." - riiight - where ya gonna get one of those? And $255k? "A 3.8RSR engine making approximately 380hp" - yet that looks like a mechanically injected early 70's engine. I call shennanigans.

The links to the Australian operation have been kicking around for years, but I haven't heard of anyone actually buying one of these and bringing it over.

jcolosante that posts on this board, had his car purchased from Kraftwerk, at Rennsport- that is his car in the picture above. if and when he sees this post, perhaps he can share his experience with the aussies. There are a few 917 real motors around- call carl thompson if you have the serious dosh it takes to buy one!

Hi. I can assure you that the cars are real and the company is legitimate and reputable. I have been working with the company Kraftwerkz in Australia for a few years and I have become affiliated with them as a representative in the USA. I am in possesion of chassis #004 which is available for viewing and it was displayed at Rennsport II at Daytona where I met several of you. Actual purchases do not go through me - they go directly through Kraftwerkz in Australia. There have been several of these cars delivered worldwide with four currently in the USA.

I don't want to turn this into a sales forum for the product so you can contact me at info@kraftwerkz-usa.com for further info. Thank you.

hi john
what i would like to know is how does the car drive and what is the feel? if you have driven other make sports racers, what comparisons can you make? For example: Having driven the Beck 904 3.6 prototype back to back with my hot 6, i have observations and impressions that would influence my thoughts of purchase
thanks

John C

I must get one. I was excited about finishing my C2 Turbo track car. After seeing the LMK917, I am ready to get rid of it.

Wasn't Wayne a witness in some lawsuit regarding 917 engine values?

So how much would it cost to put the right engine in there?

Something puzzles me. The car in the Rennsport pic looks massive compared to the 911's in the background. But a 914 TOWERS over the diminutive (authentic) 917. What gives? A real 917 is just about exactly the length of an engine, tranny and driver sitting just semi-prone. The front axle runs under the driver's knees.

I saw John's car at Rennsport and a gentleman from Maine had one at a DE at NHIS last month.

Having had a chance to look at a couple of them close up, and in John's case, in close proximity to a number of the real deal, I have to say that quality of fabrication is pretty impressive. I do think that the fake flat fan is a little hoky though. The fella from Maine gave me tour of his car, and if I could swing it I'd like to have one. It's not a Laser kit car that's for sure! Other than the power plant it looks to be faithful to the real thing in execution, but the engine seems like it might be an issue. The one in NH was running really rough and he said that he is having problems sorting it out.

All in all, very cool.

I think that it's just the camera angle.....it's the same size as a real one.

This is giving me serious wood! Where in the world can I get an extra $100k (car price + shipping along with engine and gearbox) without doing anything illegal??

John, sure looks nice and hope you bring it to Barrett Jackson next month in Scottsdale. What kind of financing do you have ? (please say none)
