Exhaust Gasket
I need to get 6 new exhaust gaskets (78SC) but I see both of these in the pelican catalog.
H-111-191-13 / 911 (1974-83) - 9.20ea H-111-191-13 / 911 (1984-89) - 1.40ea Is there really a difference between the 74-83 exhaust gaskets to the 84-89 exhaust gasket size wise? Id hate to pay all the extra just to say I got the correct part number although they are the same thing. I don’t really care what year they are for as long as they are going to make a correct seal. Someone please tell me it’s OK for the cheaper ones. Last edited by smestas; 01-11-2005 at 08:01 PM.. |

Sorry to see your thread go unanswered. Perhaps you should order both, and return the unopened packages for a refund.
Did you call the Tech Pelican guys yet? Perhaps you should e-mail them and call them, they can be very helpful.

Yah they do say stainless but I'm not looking for anything special, just somthing that will work. The stainless ones are the only ones listed for a '78? I thought the exhaust gaskets were mostly the same sizes but I thought I'd check with the group first.

whenever I see something funny like that on pelican I go looking elsewhere at part numbers, usually the problem unfolds itself without too much effort.
i know that's no help, sorry |

Ok my mb911 muffler is in and I need to order these gaskets. Anyone know the answer if the less expensive ones can be used?

Simon,
Actually ... neither of the later gaskets are correct for 2.7 heads! The $1.40 gaskets are tinned steel and are a bit larger in ID than your original copper gaskets ... 1.660" vs 1.416". The larger ID is to accommodate the tube 'step' down into the head opening present in later HEs and SSIs for 3.0s and 3.2 heads. It should seal fine, but you may want to find the early copper gasket 901.111.195.00 from another supplier ... I don't have the ID of the $9.20 stainless gasket. ... edit: I misread your sig. and though you had a '77, hence the 2.7 reference! The $1.40 gasket should work perfectly on 3.0 heads!!!
