mb911 muffler - Good News/Bad News

Good News:
I got my mb911 muffler in today!

Bad News:
The box came in all soaked and both tips were sticking out.
As you can see from the pics they are a bit banged up.

EDIT: FYI this was not a packing problem but a shipping problem. The box was soaked and all torn up from the wetness. Ben did a great job paking the muffler but it just wasnt water proof.

Who was the shipping company? Was it shipped with insurance? My mb911 was shipped to Michigan with no problems. Sorry to hear about this Simon.

Here is a shot of the whole thing. Looks pretty straight compared to the outlet tips.

Ben sent it to me via UPS. I called them to see what could be done but it would require me to return the whole thing to them according to customer service. I guess I can re-bend the tips back to shape myself. It's just a bummer when you wait for something anxiously and it shows up like that.

Look at the positive, it will all be worth it after you bolt it up and turn the key.

That's nothing, really. Take a pipe a little smaller than the ID of the tail pipe. Wrap some tape around the end and stick it in the tail pipe and roll it back and forth over the bend.

You'll roll it out just like rolling fenders with a bat. Don't use pliers or somthing that will kluge the job.

or you can use a cone shaped metal object -- they are made to do things like this, and have some special name, which escapes me...

muffler tip

Most muffler shops have mandrels that ca be inserted to reform the shape.

When I bought mine ,I was worried about this very problem[Shipping to New Zealand] but then Ben informed me that the box size was limited to 42"[I think] so I asked him to remove the tips and fortunately it arrived unscathed.-- I can rework the valance and align the tips ,with the muffler in place. Another plus, is that I can have a sneaky look inside the thing! Anyone want photos?--Joking!! Its a work of art and I hope to hear it shortly.

Simon, I wouldn't paint the stainless. And yep, I'd just roll out the dent with a water pipe or mallot handle. Good luck.

If for some reason you can't get that dent out to your satisfaction you can easily cut a 1/2 inch off the end and you won't even notice after it's installed.

Ben,

I didnt want to bother you with this since it wasnt that big of a deal. I'm gonna give it a good bangaroo and see how it straightens out. I'll probably have to cut some off the tips in the end so I think I'll be just fine.

Thanks for the support guys!

Now can someone answer my gasket question?
