Tachometer Internal Needle Dampener

I have a 7300 redline tach that doesn't seem to dampen the needle movements very well - the needle swings back and forth and takes a minutes to settle down to the correct reading when the engine is at a steady rpm.

I swapped it out for a different unit, and the replacement works fine - it dampens the needle as it's supposed to. As I have a 2.2S engine, I'd like to fix the 7300 redline unit and get it back into the car.

Does anyone know the internal workings of the Tach and how it dampens needle movements? or if that doesn't work - how easy is it to switch dials from one gauge to another?

Thanks,
Andrew M

dunno

but as a guess, and to bump your post, it may use an inductor to dampen the movement.

most instrument services can fix this problem

Garage
Andrew,

I recently replaced the tacho circuit in my unit with a home built one. And it works fine. I will be posting a thread on this shortly, need to get pics etc. You would have to be handy with electronic circuits, and a soldering iron. Otherwise you will have to source one on ebay, normally a number to choose from.

North Hollywood Speedometer will put a damper in the old tachs. I think the charge is around $75. I don't remember as I was having a lot of other things done at the same time.
