Question CV Joint - axle boot question

The car is a 1985 Carrera, the ineer cv joint is: 100 mm dia. cv joint, (6) 8 mm dia. allen head bolts. This would be an "early '85 set-up" correct? So I should be using the "mid 1975-84" cv boot w/flange correct? Everything I've found posted only mentions "sliding the new axle cover (a.k.a. cv boot/dust boot) onto the axle." I can't figure how to get the small end of the boot over even the first hump in the axle; can't wait to get to the double ridge humps where the small end of the boot finally seals. The old boot was a snug fit at the small end but its inside dia. is 3 centimeters greater then the new boot. Could I have the wrong replacement boot? More likely I lack the know-how of getting that thing on; it sure doesn't "slide" on and I've pushed with all I can muster while laying under the car. Help or hints would be appreciated. Ron

Correction to the first post. Meant to say the inside dia. difference between the old and new boot is 3 mm.

These should slide on easily with a little grease. Maybe you purchased the wrong size.
There are some hints in this thread:

Lightbulb

Verified with pelican that I had the right part, just an inept mechanic (me). Inept but inventive. A plastic extender tube for a vacume cleaner attachment - slide the female end onto the axle shaft after the boot and it provides a great way to push the small end of the boot over the first axle bulge. The second axle bulge was easy using only my hand (the plastic tube won't go over the first bulge).
