Posting Pictures?????

I used InfranView to reduce some pictures down to 640x480, but they're still 240K+ files. The download thingy says that you can download a file of any size or dimension (NEW), but I keep getting an error saying the file is too big (over 100K)....

Do I have to reduce these down further????

Yes, you need to get below 100K as they say. I'm sure there's a way to reduce resolution as well as size in that program. I'm not familiar with it and use a version of Photoshop. When I need to reduce file size I use 'save a copy' which allows/asks me to select resolution. You don't need high res for screen viewing since the screen can't use all that res anyway.

You can reduce file size by lowering compression (aka quality) of the JPG.

Another tip is to crop everything that is not needed out of the pic.

You can reduce file size by lowering quality just before save try 50 or less and you don't need to make it smaller

Sea,
Quality, resolution, compression...we've all said about the same thing. Cropping will help but, IMO, not as much as lowering the quaity

Something must be screwed up as I uploaded a 225k pic the other day and it worked fine.

Me too, yesterday or the day before I started getting the 100k message.
In the past (including the day before) I loaded any picture I wanted, no problem. Now it appears that only crummy resolutions will work which means that I am done posting pics because I do not feel like screwing around changing a picture every time I get the urge to post a photo.

Maybe all these nice pics are overloading the system and Wayne has decided to put an end to it?

It used to accept any size pic & downsize if they were above the max. whan I uploaded them.

I think Wayne has been doing some work on the server recently & this feature seems to be disabled.

Michael,

I always make sure the pic width is 800 or less pixels, and the file size is 100,000 bytes or less on all uploads ... all done with Irfanview in a minute or two after a scan or a pic file save from a memory card ...

Before [when the automatic sizing/reduction feature WAS working] I was never satisfied with how big or what quality the 'automatic' pic post turned out to be ... so I never used after initial tests!!!

Yeah,

And why is the "members" tab disabled by the administrators?

This has to do with the SPAM attack that we had on the system last week. The person that sent the spam obviously got the list of members from this directory. I have disabled it in the meantime.

There was a problem with the server - a side-effect to the upgraded software I just installed.

I have identified and fixed the problem - see test image above.

I've found that 50-60kb doesn't stretch the pic beyond routine reply width.
