Newbie needs help with Temp Sensor
 

Long Time Reader First Time Poster.

I need help locating the Head Temp Sensor on my 88 930. It is not the same setup as the 911(at least by looking for it)There is a plug with 2 wires on the rear of engine by #1 cyl but I don't think thats it. I've tried bentley and 101 to na avail. Any help would be appreciated. Don

Doesn't an 88 use CIS injection?

If so, doesn't it not have a head temp sensor?

it doesn't have one.

Yes it has CIS and if that's the case no wonder I could'nt find it.

Just curious, why were you looking for it?

I have a cut off problem when warm. and I have checked about everything but that. sometimes you can drive 20 miles and no cutoff but go 5 miles after warmup and will cut off many times until i get back to the house

No DME relay.

The hardest part about these cars is: is it fuel or electric? If I drive the car at any speed and level throttle it will cut off. if I push it to the floor it will cut off ,if it is idling in the driveway it will cut off. I have replaced relays and fuel filter new cap and wires new plugs. cleaned or replaced every fuse. and have 2 new fuel pumps sitting the garage. I have replaced the yellow box. the silver box. the blue box, the coil, EVERYTHING IT SEEMS:mad:

Hard to guess, and I don't know much about 930s, but it seems like a lot of times over the years when people have had that type of running problem with 930s, it ended up being related to one of the (seemingly) millions of vacuum lines on the engine and/or around the intercooler.

If it were my car, I'd pull off the intercooler and check and recheck all vacuum lines (replace them if they have any age on them) and connections very carefully.

The turbo has two Fuel Pumps. Run a jumper wire to the Fuel Pump fuses to keep the pumps running all the time (find a 12VDC source on the fuse panel [usually cose to the back of the trunk]). Then test drive. Besure to remove wires after testing.

maybe the overboost switch is defective and causing the pumps to shut off. take the wire off of it and ground the wire, for test purposes. it's just below where the turbo sump breather hose attaches to the air cleaner.

Would it be possible for someone to post a pic of the of the overboost switch..:confused:
