Looking at an 84 911
NOVICE ALERT! NOVICE ALERT!
I also own a"dreaded" water-cooled, front engine Porsche (no, not a cayenne.) so take everything I say with a grain of salt ![]() Looking at my first 911, a 1984 Carrera Cabriolet with over 140k miles. Interior a little rough, exterior acceptable, doesn't appear to have been a repaint. PO is asking 13k area. Comments as to whether or not this is close to the norm? If so, my next questions will have to do with what to check out on the vehicle. thank you! |

Hello,
I would suggest that if you are serious about the car have a ppi done at a reputable shop. Be sure to have a leakdown and compression test done, 140 miles it could be getting close to a rebuild and you are in for some big $$. Does the previous owner have maintenance records on the car. This is a big benefit. If there are maintenance records and the ppi is clean then 13,000 would be reasonable. |

I bought a 1984 911 Cab in Oct for $19,000. But it had only 32,000 miles and was in mint condition with 930 tail and 930 front spoiler. I personally think it is worth spending the money on a low mileage car and then driving it and not saving it for anybody. Good luck its a blast

I had an 83' Cab with 84K miles bought for $13,750. It was in awesome shape, only needed a littl re-uholstery work on the dirvers seat. But as someone has already suggested get a PPI done. This guy had complete service records and I almost passed on the PPI, thankfully I did have one done and the echanic found it had worn valve guides and some syncro going bad, was going to be a $8-10K total repair bill. When you get a PPI done, and they write you a list of things wrong with the vehicle (they always write something), it gives you some good ammunition to help you get the price down.
So you spend a bit on a PPI and will hopefully recover it and more with your bargaining power. But if the PPI isn't great, don't fall in love with the car and buy it anyway, walk away, buy something else there are plenty to choose from.

get a PPI. check the top condition as well , they are $$.If it checks out the price seems fair. i paid 15.5 for mine last august but a decent 911 here is hard to find. i have made several changes already. here are some pics. BEFORE

A lot dependes on what you want. But from your discription it wouldn't be a 911 that would interest me just from what your saying about the interior and body.
I would rather have to deal with motor/ trans work and have a clean interior and paint. A clean body and interior says a lot about the life the car has led. Now if you just want a driver and can live with the interior and paint that's different. If you want a clean car, I'd walk. It's just more cost and time effective to start out with a cleaner example. You could also by a pretty clean SC coupe or Targa for what being asked for this Carrera. |
