SSI Heat Exchanger & Dual Exhausts
Wayne;
I have a 1982 911SC Targa with 3.0 Engine that I am completely reconditioning. Car is for street use only with no or minimal track. Heads have been completely reconditioned by Ollie's in LA. with new valves, guides, springs, etc. Cams were reground to 964 specs by Webcams in LA. New or manafluxed for all moving engine parts. Ready for reassembly by master mechanic. Want to use Dual SSI Heat Exchanger to Dual Exhausts. Is this advisable? Will I gain power if I use a single SSI ouput to Dual Exhausts? What brand of Stainless Steel Dual Exhaust do you recommend? Thanks!! |

Try a search there's a lot of info on using SSI's and dual-in dual-out mufflers. You can expect a slight increase in power with the SSI's, if emissions isn't an issue I definately think they are a good idea. They can also give you a throatier sound, but muffler makes the biggest difference regarding that. I think Mark Wilson just put these on his SC maybe he'll chime in.

I just completed the changover and am really satisfied with the driveability of the car. Took it out for my first hard run this morning and love the noticable difference. Others have said that they do not notice the change, but with the removal of the heavy stock manifolds and muffler, I can feel it in the seat. By the way, check into mb911's ss muffler that has been mentioned on the bbs. I went with it and it is top notch. The car is quite at cruising speed and howls like a F1 car when you get on it. I had a smile on my face so long it hurt.
