Wife is gone, Put the oven to use.

Well, when you are all alone on the weekends and have nothing better to do but work on your car. Strange things may happen.

I have read that cooking your headers after painting helps the paint adhere to the metal better. Well I must say that I am so far impressed. I put them in the oven with a dull finish. After 30 minutes of baking them at 325`they came out looking like they were powder coated. I will find out if this helps the paint adhere better in two weeks at California Speedway. If it does not work, at least they look good now.

Oh yeah, I think my wife may be pissed when she gets home. The house has this funny smell now.... Oh well. That is what she gets for leaving me alone on the weekends.

Thats bold. You didnt even wrap the shelf in tin foil. My wife would shoot me.

Headers look great, though. Nice work!

Naaaa no tin foil. I thought about it but I did not want it to stick to the headers.... I am not sure if it would or would not but I didnt want to take the chance.

Nice job on the headers, but don't forget to take your oil drain pan down off the hook before she gets home!

Might want to open a few windows and air out the house ... before the wife gets back!

If you think paint is bad ... wait until you bake a greasy front hub to replace the races, or an old alternator housing to get a bad bearing out!!!

Might want to look out for an old, scruffy, used 'built-in' oven for such shop chores in the future ... just to keep the peace in the household! The installation of 220V in the shop/garage and $25 for the oven are pretty cheap compared to irrate wife ...

Then, again, per Lady 911 ... the shopping may be for new oven! So, you may have just created the old, scruffy oven for use out in the shop!!!

Doesn't look like that one is used much. Or we're slobs.

What kind of paint?

Just sautee some onions on the stove before she gets back - Don't burn a candle. Guys don't burn a candle when alone unless they are hiding something.

Oh and nice headers - I have a set that look identical. What are you going to use for the extensions?

Cool

My new wife (then) came home and found a set of cyl heads in the dishwasher. I was just washing off the things after bead blasting them.

She made me immediately remove the tires from the living room floor.

13 yrs later things are much different now!

Go for it!

Thats funny because I have 3- 15x7 Fuchs on my Living Room floor right now. I'm waiting for two more to arrive. lol . I get funny looks from her everyday. I just tell her she doesn't have to vacuum that room...YEAH RIGHT! If I did, a Fuch wheel would be bent... and I'm in a hospital.

I used to get away with stuff like this and in fact had about 1/4 of a 911 in the dining room at one point.

Nowadays I'm not sure I would survive such antics and even though it's not as fun and much more expensive, I tend to farm out the nasty jobs...

Speaking of which I had my headers Jet-Hot coated and almost 2 years later it is holding up perfectly; no kind of paint can really compare to these high-tech coatings.

Sometimes I'm glad to be a bachelor. I wash my valve covers in the dishwasher routinely, and it wouldn't even occur to me that the living room coffee table is a bad place to rebuild 915 shafts. lol, you guys are hilarious, in kind of a pathetic married sort of way.

They look very nice. Don't know why you wanted to bake them though; once you get them on the car and run the engine for awhile, they'll get all the baking they need!

I did that for basically $0. I got my Mom's old oven and hooked up the 220 in the garage myself since I already had the contractor who built the garage install two 110 circuits -- one from either side of the circuit breaker box.

If the oven has a self cleaning feature, use it today. Even though you don't need to with regard to the oven itself. But, it will reach 500* and cook out any residual smell. As far as the rest of the house, light a book of matches. The sulphur will rid the house of smell just like it does in the bathroom.

Oil changing fan, that was funny. But for what? A motorcycle?
