Headlights, what type are these?

Found these pretty cheap so I had to snag em. I've seen this type mostly on early 912's, but I've never seen the Marchel reflector inside with a H1 and H3 type bulb. Was that standard back then (65-68)? Would they be correct and perform ok for my 67S, versus the standard US type sealed bulb that came on my car?http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1105826292.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1105826324.jpg

Hmm, I wonder if those are H1's for a 911. The angle looks funny to me.

H1's have a separate adjuster for low beam and high beam I believe.

You may have lights for something besides a 911, but then again I coud be wrong, not much early car experience. Warren or JW will probably chime in with good info.

Yeah, they're not like the later H1's with the adjusters. I think the frames are just typical 912 units. However, all those 912 units I've seen have what appears to be a sealed bulb with a 3-prong plug. The Marchal reflectors are what's confusing me!

7" replacements for a standard 7" bulb. SEV marchal by the look of it. bosch and hella have about the same light. may take a H4 bulb like bosch/hella, but would have to see the bulb and the hole in the reflector to tell.

Too small for 7" replacement, John!

Retro,

You've never seen those kind of headlamps on any production Porsche! They are Marchal's version of an E-code sealed-beam replacement bulb for the high/low beam bulb of a quad lamp 5 3/4" system ... the usual type of E-code 5 3/4" high/low unit used an H4 bulb!

Any Citroens ever have multi-Voltage electrical system, i.e., 24 V/12 V/6 Volts available for accessories??? The French have obviously had some odd ideas over the years, and that set of bulbs' markings definitely fall into the 'ODD CATEGORY'!!!

john walker's workshop 01-15-2005 02:55 PM

i thought that was one installed in the 912 housing. oops.

RetroSC 01-15-2005 02:59 PM

Yes, those voltage markings were confusing. Do I just need to make sure the H1 and H3 bulbs are 12V and go from there, or am I wasting my time fitting these?

I really prefer these housings over the US style trim rings though. Bill

Retro,

I think you missed my point ... those AREN'T replacement units for 7" sealed beams, so they won't fit ANY Porsche headlamp assembly!!!

Get out a tape measure and measure the OD of the Marchal ... if you don't believe me!

RetroSC 01-15-2005 03:22 PM

Ahhh! sorry the relectors are 7" and they do fit.

These came out of the Porsche headlamp assemblys I purchased. I just removed the Marchal reflector to photograph it, but you can see in the first pic the other reflector is still in the housing.

RetroSC 01-15-2005 03:29 PM

Sorry, that first pic is a bit of an optical illusion. I can see how you thought it was a 5 3/4.
