Cylinder head temp

Hey, guys. What would be considered normal safe cylinder head temp on a 3.0 SC twin plug race engine, 10.2 compression, on race gas? What about safe max temp? Joe

can't help with the figures but you might get a better response in the engine rebuilding forum

There was some discussion of this on this forum a few months ago - it was fairly general however.

The temp. you measure will vary a lot based on where you measure it.

Yes, I know that there are many variables. What I am looking for is a generally accepted temp reading from a location that is commonly used for sender position, such as under spark plug on hottest cylinder.

Did a search turn up anything? If not, re-post with your search terms and maybe someone can help you.

As I recall it was mostly a discussion on melting pts. of alloys.

Ok, i'll try that. Thanks!

It seems, at least in general aviation, that they like to see CHT's at less that 400* F for longevity.

When aluminum reaches 450*F it loses its strength very rapidly.

That sounds reasonable. I talked to Ron Zitza of Zotz Racing in Orlando at the November HSR race at Sebring, and he says they like to see between 300-350 degrees.
