Who swapped Oil Return Tubes w/o removing Heat Exchanger on 84-88 911?

Has anyone on the BBS been able to remove leaky Oil return tubes and replace them with collapseable ones on the LEFT side??? Remember - on a 84-88 now...

Right side on these years is a piece of cake but I'd like to avoid the hassle of removing the HE. Tell us how you did it.

no problem. install the front one first. i use 2 pairs of extra long needlenose pliers. one to hold the outside end in place, the other to expand the tube and work it into the case. a bit of a pain to slide the snapring down to the groove, but start with the ends facing down and to the rear a bit so it will clear the oil line. then do the rear one. silicone paste is the only lube that will allow the tube to slide on the green o-rings. plenty of it.

I did it. I used the hose clamp method to get enough leverage on the tubes. It makes it a lot easier plus you run less risk of crushing one. Getting the snap rings in place is a bit of a pain butpnly on one or two of them. After in place I wire tied the snap rings so they canb't posibly slide.

Anyone ever done both sides on a 78-79 SC, with air injection in place?

I remember trying for hours before finally giving up! Supposedly it can be done - I couldn't see how.

SCs with air injection plumbing need the left exchanger removed, and the plumbing dropped down.

Thanks guys. I was about resigned to having to drop the HE - something I was NOT looking forward to doing.

Too cold to try it now but maybe this weekend. I'm in no hurry, Columbus weather is not something I'd be driving the P-car in anyway.
