Question Fuel Cap question?

I need a fuel cap for my 911. It looks as though the cap would need to have three evenly spaced fingers to hook around the neck of the fuel filling spout to hold it in place. Does it sound like it is a 74 fuel cap I need or, a fuel cap from a different year? Also a rather interesting thing I noticed was a built in funnel around the fuel filling neck designed to collect any spilled gas and send it down a line to spill on the ground behind the front tire.

Thanks

Does your need for a cap have anything to do with aircare?

No Dvkk, (thank god) I live up north where we are exempt from air care. When I purchased my project car it didn't have a fuel cap. She is a bit of a bastard so I just wanted to make sure I new which year of gas cap I need before I order one.

Come on…don’t tell me all you guys pull up to the “Full Service” side at the gas station!

Here are my choices:

A - Fuel Cap, 911 (1974-75)
B - Fuel Cap, 911/911 Turbo (1976-79)
C - Fuel Cap, 911/911 Turbo (1980-89)

Driving around with a rag hanging out where my fuel cap should be just doesn’t look right on a Porsche

I'm confused - what year 911 do you have and why would more info be needed? i.e. why wouldn't you just get the one for your year car?

I believe the quarter panel has been replaced, and possible the fuel filler neck. The car in question is a 1974, but I’m not 100% sure of the year of the fuel filler neck. I’m missing the fuel cap and noticed that the cap changed over the years. The cap I need should have three fingers to grab the fuel spout. I was hoping for some input on what changes have occurred to the fuel cap over the years. Do all the caps use this 3 finger system?

Thanx Randy

Since nobody is answering this I think you either mail order one and try - if it does not fit, put it on eBay or give the $8 part away. Or go see the dealer parts guy.

Well, the choice you forgot to mention was pre-74 ... is your tank strictly for a space-saver spare, or will a full-sized 6 x 15 wheel with tire fit as well?

Your description could match a '73 cap as well ...
