Snow and all-around tires for 16" Fuchs on 78SC
 

I want to put a good set of tires for general use. I am using this SC for transportation. Love to drive it but don't autox or otherwise push the envelope with it. Just want good snow and foul weather tires. Any suggestions?

All-season radials?

You really need two sets of tires. In the warm weather months I use Bridgestone S03, others like Michelin, Dunlop, etc. For winter sport tires, nothing beats the Bridgestone Blizzaks which I am driving around on right now. Good snow/rain grip and pretty good dry grip also.

I recommended some Bridgestone RE950s to friends in Vail who make frequent runs to Denver. They put them on both a neu-A4 quattro and a 325xi, the snow and dry performance combo has been great for them. Hakka WRs and Vredestein Wintracs seem less squirmy than the Blizzaks I have for my urq and they do great in the snow.

I'd push for two sets of wheels though, you won't like compromising when the weather stays clear during the summer months.

Exactly what ive got, works like a charm

Falken Ziex 512s all weather z rated are cheap and do a decent job in the wet and are OK on snow. I just put them on my wifes 325i and my daughters 924. They have good reviews and are around $80.00 to $100 each depending on size.

Last year I had Pirelli snow tires on the 325 which are great but then you need two sets of wheels and I think the Falkens will probably fit your needs for both summer and occasional snow days.

We don't get much snow here is south Georgia, but for everything else (wet, dry, pavement, dirt, etc.) I have had a very good experience with the Falken 451s that are on my SC now. The first time I drove them in wet weather I was amazed to find out that they stuck as well as the "no name" previous tire set that came on the car did in the dry! Plus you can buy the 205-55 x 16 size for about $70 each and the 225-50 x 16 size for about $80 each! The fronts are about 1/2 worn at +20,000 miles and the rears will need replacing in the next 3-4,000 miles. Oh, and there were no balance issues either. Hope this helps you make a decision.

Well we have had snow for about 10 days now and it is just washing away. I put my All Seasons on every winter to get through the rainy time and took them out in the snow this year. I drove to the end of the block and turned around and came home to jack up the car and put the snows on. Night and day difference. If you are "caught" all seasons might get you home, but I would not plan to drive my 911 around in the snow without snow tires. Just my experience with the "wet heavy" snow we get up here from time to time.

Fred, I have the Falken 451's on my 944 turbo and I agree they stick like crazy and are fine in the wet (not so good in snow though).
