Targa to Cab conversion new parts needed
I have decided to keep the 87 targa and convert her into a cab.
Does anyone know a source for new parts & instructions for fitting the top? Thanks, Ken |
Do a search on a poster named Widebody - he's got instructions hosted on his web site, which includes the needed parts. You might try eBay or German Auto Dismantlers for the parts - I think they had a complete kit up for auction recently, but it failed to meet reserve at $1500. Changing an '87 will be more difficult due to the change in latches on the windshield rail, iirc.

Check out my how-to page @ http://www.rennlight.com/howto/cab/
I just sold my top a couple weeks ago. The windshield header and top changed ~1986 You need a top to match the year of your car, which will more than likely be an electric top, with which I have no experience. |
I have a 1977 targa that I converted. The top that I got was from a 1987 donor. The front latches were different. They are the roller latches not the hook type. I had to do some modifications to my windshield. It was pretty easy to do, so don't sweat it if you have an earlier model targa and can only get a later model top. That being said, if you have a post 1987 targa, you need a post 1987 top. It was a lot easier to cut some metal away and weld to fit a later top than it would be to add metal for a pre 87 latch.

Widebody,
Your link looks great. Can I ask you to e-mail me the pdf of the shop directions. I tried to download and print from the web page and I get 1/4 of the page to print. Anyone know of a new top ...or like new top for the 87?? Maybe a project that never got completed?? |
