Body guys, SC Flare Experts in Denver? Pelican Flare party?!

Hey all,

I've got some SC flares I want to install on my 72 911. I've got all the air tools, etc. I'd love to have a couple of experienced "flarers" there while we go through it. I'm thinking of using that 3M body panel glue if anyone has any experience with it. Drop me a line, and maybe we can work out a little group deal, and all learn from the experience. A little Pizza, some beer (or soda) and we'll be all set.

Well I'm no expert, but I'm happy to kibitz. Let me know when you are planning on doing it.

Bump. Any other takers? Anyone who has some experience while I chop up my vintage sportscar?

I can't be there to help but let us know if there are questions. BTDT, except for the bonding adhesive.

Are you going to screw them in place while the adhesive cures or use Clecos?

I'll be there if I can. No experience though.

Why would you use adhesive? Why not weld it on. I've welded before but only on the farm, and not cars requiring mig or tig. My thought being, welding is better than adhesive. Dave down at Dart could probably do it for you relatively cheaply.

However, I'm in for learning how to do it via adhesive. Let me know when and I'll try and get away for it.

Kevin...I have the technology, actually. I have an Apple iSight and a Powerbook, but I'm not sure how to set it up for a webcast. I could look into it though.

Also..I asked a question on that thread...you said you overlapped the panels by 2.5"...did you just grind the heck out of the lip from the top panel to get it to smooth out? How's it holding up/looking?

I'm not sure I understand your question. which lip do you mean.
I haven't seen the car in a couple months but the last I saw it was OK. I'm sure if there were any problems with it I'd hear about it quickly.

Yer freakin' me out mannnn,

I'm sitting over here off of Valmont with a toolbox of hammers and dollies I brought in to straighten out a bent storage shelf at work!

I already have a pretty full schedule this weekend. It would still be fun to cruise by, check out the progress and snap some digipix to post. Where's ground zero ?

Where off of Valmont? I live right by 28th and Valmont.

At any rate...Kevin...you said you overlapped the flare with the body, which means that there had to be a lip the height of the flare sitting on top of the body, right? What did you do about that lip?

I blended the panel with filler (bondo). I doesn't take much, about an 1/8th ".

Did you grind it at all first? So I'm clear..the overlap of the flare was like this right? :
